Behind-the-scenes moʻolelo of the 103rd annual Song Contest paniolo theme

For KSK haumāna, Song Contest is undoubtly one of the most treasured and memorable experiences during their time on campus. This year’s theme, “Nā Mele Paniolo: Songs of the Hawaiian Cowboy,” is a nod to the rich cultural heritage of paniolo as well as a recognition of those traditions continuing today.

E Ola! on the menu: KSK alum partners with Flik Dining to bring indigenous foods to school lunches

Hawaiian cultural education at Kamehameha Schools doesn't take a lunch break. This year, the school's food vendor, Flik Independent School Dining, is partnering with local chef and KSK ‘88 alum Kealoha Domingo for "Hānai ‘Ai" - a program that introduces haumāna to indigenous foods in both traditional and new ways.

Middle school Kumu Paul Parish and Kumu Mark Pacarro use their collective manaʻo to nurture a new crop of ʻōiwi leaders through a two-year pathway called “Kaʻāmauloa.” Launched in fall 2022, the new loʻi kalo pathway provides haumāna an opportunity to learn about Hawaiʻi’s traditional sustainable practices and protocol that enabled kanaka ʻōiwi to flourish for centuries without aid from outside resources.
